Sadly, I have came to the realisation that the favourite meal for these carpet sharks is insulation and they usually start in a loft or attic. If you are seeing them, you may have a LOT. We have successfully gotten rid of ours in the past by bombing our attic... Not sure if this was due suffocation from dust or shock from the initial blast. I would start with dust as scaring fish moths is known to be difficult and could also cause a considerable amount of damage to your neighbours garage...
"Carpet sharks" ... nice! Can just imagine them crawling within the pile of the carpet with their little dorsal fin protruding and then pouncing on an unsuspecting first edition of HG Wells ... bet you even he couldn't have forseen this danger.
Now back to your solution .. how many years did you say you served in the secret service of the army?
I definitely want to test the assertion that it is difficult to scare fishmoths ... am sure if I play a Cher CD really loud it will cause them pancreatic failure. Although Cher is a bit like a cockroach so they may take to her ...
So, basically, other than collateral damage to all surrounding infrastructure, all you have for me is that I have a LOT :) You sure you're not a secret agent of the bookmunchers
Do you think War of the Worlds could have come about because of an encounter with silver fish? Which in turn brought about The Time Machine?
So back to the solution and my brief experience with the secret service and my even briefer account thereof... :)
Cher is an idea but may annoy your annoying neighbours, if you don't have a small measure of TNT or even potassium for that matter I would go all out and offer it something so terrible it should be band and almost dare not speak its name... brussel sprouts
